Unparalleled success for East Coast FM as it is awarded highest honour of Princes Royal Training Award 2018
Local community radio station achieves excellence status for a second year in a row
6th September 2018
East Coast FM(ECFM) volunteers, friends, family and listeners are celebrating having secured the most coveted training status, the Princes Royal Training Award. ECFM is one of only 48 organisations across the whole of the UK to achieve this status. It is the only business in East Lothian to hold this coveted title.
The Award recipients were all subject to a rigorous assessment process. Representatives of ECFM will attend a ceremony at St. James’s Palace in London on 31 October to mark this momentous occasion.
Ian Robertson, Station Manager at ECFM said, “We really can’t believe we have secured this award for the second year in a row. This is testament to the impact East Coast FM is having and we are over the moon! Our volunteers and trainers put in such a huge effort it is wonderful to see this being recognised. I want to say thank you to her Royal Highness and the City and Guilds for this recognition. We will keep working hard to make a positive impact on our community and beyond. We will be looking forward to visiting the palace to mark this special achievement in October.’
ECFM was chosen from a long list of 90 ‘exceptional businesses’ for ‘creating lasting impact by successfully linking their skills development needs to business performance.’
ECFM was credited for its ‘Working in Partnership’ model. And was recognised for using ‘a partnership approach to create a tailored programme for people with additional support needs. The aim was for the group, along with their carers, to produce a two-hour weekly live radio show. Outcomes have included increased work with the community…’
ECFM also broadcasts a highly popular show, The School Bell, which gives children and young people from local schools the opportunity to learn about communication, broadcasting and being on air. Many who have spent time on the programme have gone on to present their own programmes and train younger people themselves.
Other businesses to achieve this status in 2018, only the 3rd year of this award, include River Island, John Lewis, RBS, the Royal Air Force and GSK.
