I was in the first group of students to join Dundee College’s new HNC Radio Broadcasting course in 1990. We were based at Radio Tay in Dundee and trained on broadcast standard studio equipment. I completed this course in 1991 and passed with four merit modules out
of eight. This was the highest achieved by any student that year. I went on to work for Tayside
Regional council as a producer and trainer of community based Radio programmes, working with community groups across Dundee, Perthshire and Angus. At the same time I was broadcasting on Hospital Radio Perth and working as a freelance producer and broadcaster for other Campus Radio broadcasts. I presented a live music based Sunday breakfast show for Radio Tay between March and July 1993.
In 1994 I moved to Heartland FM in Pitlochry and worked as the station administrator. I was involved in all parts of the stations activities from administration, PRS reporting to production and presenting. I was made redundant from that role in late 1994. I continued to broadcast weekly programmes on Hospital Radio Perth until 1998 when I moved to the Musselburgh area. More recently I produced and edited a series of recorded commentaries that were used by Rabbie’s Tours on their Edinburgh city tours and out of town Highland tours. I’ve never lost my love or enthusiasm for great radio. I love music from the 80’s!
