The Singing Kettle’s newest stage show ‘The Big Christmas Party’ is a fun interactive sing along show for all the family. My 5 year old daughter Cara and I had a fantastic time there today at the Festival Ttheatre in Edinburgh. It is safe to say it has got us both well into the Christmas spirit!
Having seen the Singing Kettle myself for the first time 32 years ago, in its very first year, it was for me a magically nostalgic show! Watching the delight on Cara’s face as she joined in with the actions, sang along with gusto to the songs, some of which she recognized (songs we have enjoyed together over her early years), songs new to both of us and of course, possibly the most fun bit of all – shouting aloud alongside the rest of the audience at the top of her voice “SPOUT, HANDLE, LID OF METAL…. WHAT’S INSIDE THE SIIIIINGING KETTLE!!!” made this show for me extra special.
Kevin, Anya and Gary the music man provide throughout sing along tunes, fun and laughs for the children and grown-ups. Bozo the dog, Sniffer the Snowman and Elvis the Elf were some of the dressed up characters who provided even more fun and Christmas magic to the show. The set was bright fun and sparkly, as were the costumes.
Our favourites we agreed after the show were ‘Ye cannae shove your Granny off the bus!’, ‘Little Bunny Foo Foo’, and ‘Over the Irish Sea’. Singing Kettle classics! And whilst these songs were sung, for me, 32 years melted away as I remembered my 5 year old self singing along to these very same tunes at Portobello Town Hall! How brilliant it was enjoying these very same numbers with my own 5 year old daughter!
A great day out and very glad we did not miss out on this show!
